Last Friday I went to the N.E.C dyslexia and dyscalculia show. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to listen to key speakers like Dr. Helen Ross and Prof. Julia Carroll. It was inspiring to see all the new resources and technology to help dyslexic children and young people. It was also fascinating to see that it seems, finally, that there may be a NEW AGREED definition of this learning difficulty! For years specialists have not agreed on a definition – is it a syndrome/a learning difficulty or disability?! Is it hereditary always? Does it cause reading issues ALWAYS?! Does it have any connection to I.Q.?!
All I know is, if you are a parent or someone in education, try to go next year. There were 3 seminar halls, 2 theatres and a world of exciting trade show stands to visit for ideas and to inspire you.
